IED Kickstarter

In order to construct and display our degree show in Dundee and London, we had to be able to finance it. We used various fundraising channels to raise 6k in total. I managed our Kickstarter program which managed to bring in 50% of that from many generous sources.

I personally led our fundraising efforts trying to make sure we had a constant inflow of cash to match our outgoings (spending on materials, printing and other expenses). All of our class contributed in some way to our efforts from leading bake sales, organising a lecture series or securing sponsorship. When we were approaching the end of our degree where we had to focus on the work we were doing we turned to Kickstarter to help fund our degree show. We used Kickstarter as a means to generate a large portion of our funding from friends, family and even some strangers sharing the link when we had a spare moment while we worked on our projects in the foreground Kickstarter would slowly be ticking up to reach our £3000 goal.

Two big parts of this were creating a striking video and coming up with an enticing rewards program. For the video, we used some shots from around our studio space to give people a sense of who we are and what we were looking to do. We then showed snippets of our work to intrigue the viewer. The rewards program was a collaborative brainstorm of things we’d liked from past years and things we felt our families and friends would like. You can see the video here and you can see the full Kickstarter here.
